Preventive dental care includes regular exams, X-rays, prophylactic cleanings and patient education. Our dental team focuses on nutritional awareness and coaching the patients about appropriate care at home. Good oral hygiene assures proper health and is a key component of disease prevention. Medically compromised patients are given special attention to halt a progression of any orally-related illness.
Prophylactic Cleanings
The most important part of any dental regimen is a regularly scheduled cleaning appointment with the dental hygienist. During the visit, all debris, plaque and tartar are removed to restore positive oral flora. The patient may be also given a fluoride treatment to strengthen tooth enamel. Periodontal charting may be performed for insurance purposes and to measure the progression of periodontal disease, if any is present. Various instruments are used during this procedure including scalers and ultrasonic devices. Ceramic-tip instruments are implemented to remove deposits around crowns, bridges, veneers and implants and to avoid abrasions and fractures of the porcelain and metal components of any existing restorations. Upon removal of all debris, the teeth are polished with a prophy paste to restore luster and shine.

Our patients are encouraged to apply the following methods to ensure retention of a beautiful smile and functionality of the mouth.

- Clean any deposits from your tongue to prevent the growth of microbial entities.
- Practice a balanced diet composed of raw vegetables and fruits. Avoid sugar-rich dietary habits.
